How to Make Your Business Headshots Better
Our thoughts and best tips for making your business headshots better.
Over the years, I’ve been asked to help out with business headshots.
And, I’ve turned nearly all of them down. “Why?”, you may ask yourself. Well, here’s my reasoning for turning down work that doesn’t make sense for me or Well Kept:
Those businesses wanted standard, bland, headshots that made their employees look as uniform as possible.
It may sound ridiculous, but I stand by my product - aka, my photography.
I focus on creating what I call “lived-in” scenes, or in this case, lifestyle photography that celebrates each team member. It’s possible to do this without shuttling your employees in one after the other to stand in front of a drab background, pose the exact same for 15 seconds, and be shuttled right out.
And, while I understand that that’s exactly what some businesses require — those simply aren’t the clients for me.
SO! If you’re ready to improve your next round of business headshots for your team, here’s how to do just that:
Get outside! Leverage that beautiful, natural light we’re gifted with each day.
Encourage team members to dress as they’d like — perhaps in the outfit that makes them feel at their best.
Plan your shoot for first thing in the morning. Having to get in front of the camera after a day in the office, on-site, etc. can be….to say the least, not entirely thrilling.
Allow time for each team member to get comfortable in front of the camera (or…as comfortable as can be). Give them at least 15 minutes each and provide a private space so they’re not having to post in front of an audience.
Work with a professional photographer. These photographs represent your company, your work, ….YOU.
